Thank You 500 Followers

This is the first time I’ve ever written something to address my followers directly, or I should say my 500 followers now. I am not new to Medium. I’ve been on the platform for more than 2 years. But I have just started to write seriously since the beginning of 2020. I had some interruptions from taking care of my newborn to controlling my gaming addiction. Between those crazy times, I managed to find time to write and to serve my audience.

When I came back again to Medium in July 2021, the platform seemed to change a little. It first started with some big publications announcing their departure with Medium partnership or even their door being closed to new writers. Then Medium stated that they would want to support individual writers more by favoring us over big publications. That was great news for me as a small content creator because I hoped to reach more audiences with my self-published articles.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, I then noticed my infinite scrolling was full of social media-like and cheap content. It wasn’t the inspiring and thought-provoking stories as usual. People were going crazy about how to get 100 followers to be admitted to the Medium Partner Program. They showcased their tips and tricks to raise the number quickly.

And people talked more about money, on how they made a month on Medium. Those articles were so tempting that…
